A Full-Service, Multifunctional Arts Center
Since
its opening in April, 1992, the Anderson Arts Center has welcomed
thousands of visitors. The 9,000 square foot mansion that houses
the Arts Center began life as a private residence, a fact that still
fascinates new visitors to the facility. The majestic ceilings and
large, open expanses of wall space, which were distinctive features
of the mansion, now lend themselves perfectly to the display of
art work.
In its history, the Anderson Arts Center has evolved into a full-service, multifunctional arts center, showcasing the work of a variety of local, regional and national artists. The center offers over 25 different art exhibitions a year. One aspect of this evolutionary process has been the ever-growing commitment to the artistic nurturing of the area’s youngest artists. Almost since its inception, the entire West Wing of the Anderson Arts Center has been devoted to the display of artwork done by students attending area schools. Every summer, children can attend Art Camps sponsored by the Arts Center. A full slate of art classes including painting, drawing, cartooning, puppet making, sculpting, fiber art and more are offered throughout the school-year on Saturdays at Kids Space, on the Kemper Center campus.
